13. Modern Greece
In a general election one may choose between some vision and the status quoIf you decide not to vote, you only let someone else make a choice for youA blank vote is a conservative votePolitical authority without economic power is a hand without fingersIn our political opponents we often see our bad self rather than theirsThere are two kinds of politicians: those who believe in certain ideals and those who trade in themA politician without ideals is a skipper without a compassThe politicians represent the personal needs of their supporters but above all their ownAn authority may be threatened by its victims but it is usually undermined by its servantsThe greatest actors are not to be found in the theater but in the centers of powerWhere the average is considered good, and the good excellent, the best disappear
Over the last twenty years, at least, Greece is ruled and run by Mafia. In Greece, as in South Italy, nobody talks about it but everybody knows (Omerta): The king is naked!

Who is George Kopelas
The above book is a product of broad scientific knowledge. Written in simple English, it can be fully understood even by a reader who has not studied social, economic or political sciences. After a comprehensive analysis of the market economy, the book demonstrates the only way to a less autocratic and more prosperous society.
George Kopelas is a Greek cosmopolitan who was born in Athens in 1954 but studied business studies in London at the City of London Polytechnic (1974-78). He worked for National Westminster Bank (1981-94) in various positions and ever since with numerous foreign firms as a business consultant. As a descendant of prominent political activists who played a crucial role in the wars from the liberation of Greece from the Ottoman Empire (1821-29) and the Third Reich (1941-44) he was able to study thoroughly the political aspects of private enterprise and its effects on modern society.
